Music Videos that blow my mind. I’d like to point out that mind blowing is not necessarily a good thing. In fact, in this case mind blowing is almost the inverse of good.
I’d also like to point out that I’m wearing a sequined blazer right now. I feel like a disco ball. In all the right ways.
Anyway.
1. Leighton Meester, Somebody to Love. In an effort to prove she is anything but Blair Waldorf (like the sex tape and the fact that she was born in prison didn’t already do that) she decided to make a trashy burlesque music video. Except she did a trashy burlesque bit in season one of GG and then proceeded to be slutty in the back seat of a limo. I’m sensing a pattern here. This time she failed miserably because Chuck Bass and bow-tie were not present. She also decided it was necessary to include Robin Thicke (flashback to when he went by Thicke) on this song that was pseudo Britney heavy breathing. If only it had been Alan Thicke instead.
2. Lady Gaga, Bad Romance. Yes, Lady Gaga progressively gets more ridiculous. Just Dance sounded like any Thursday Night, Poker Face was fun and lended itself to a gimmick-y dance move, and Love Game made phallic references that made pretty much everyone giggle.
Then there was paparazzi.
And now this.
I won’t lie, I’m obsessed with this song (mainly the part where she goes ‘Gaga ooh lala’) but this video is an odd combination of Where the Wild Things Are, Michael Jackson, Interview With the Vampire and Minority Report. Yes, those weird things she crawled out of reminded me of the precogs. I will have to give her points for rocking the 10 inch McQueen heels and even trying to dance in them, but those points automatically get revoked because she thought she could pull off the sequin alein costume, a polar bear coat—head included, and burn her true love in bed.
3. Beyonce, Single Ladies. True, it’s old. But according to Kanye it’s the greatest video of all time so I figured it deserved a shoutout. I still think the Justin Timberlake rendition is better, but clearly I don’t know any better.
